Join Kehillat Nashira
"Buildership" - Shape Our Future Together
Since our inception, Kehillat Nashira has been more than just a synagogue; it has been a community built by its members, a collective where each of us contributes our time, energy, and resources to create an inclusive, spiritual space. We are dedicated to living our values within the boundaries of Orthodox halacha, and now, as we embark on the next phase of our journey, we invite you to be a vital part of this evolution.

Why join our Buildership?
As we take bold steps forward—employing our own Rabbi, securing a permanent home at the heart of our community, and expanding the frequency of our services and events—we need your partnership to continue building and sustaining Kehillat Nashira. Your commitment will not only support our growth but will also ensure that our community remains a vibrant and inclusive space for all.
Buildership Options: Choose Your Impact
We offer two tiers of buildership, each designed to allow you to contribute in a way that aligns with your circumstances:
Pillars
Join our Pillars tier, our most comprehensive option and perfect if Kehillat Nashira is or will be your main community. Your contribution will help significantly to cover our costs, and in return, you will receive the full range of benefits our community offers.
Builders
Opt for our Builders tier for a lighter commitment that still plays an important role in sustaining our community. You'll enjoy a wide range of benefits while making a valued contribution. We know many of you will continue to be members of other synagogues, so this is a great option for you.
Burial
We will soon offer an option to add burial services to either tier for an additional charge.

Contribution: Invest in Our Future
We have decided not to charge additional fees for children, so the rates below include anyone in your household under the age of 18.
Pillars
£25 per adult in your household per month
Builders
£15 per adult in your household per month
If you would like to become a Pillar or Builder but feel the above is not affordable, please get in touch with us and we will discuss an option that can work for you.
Buildership Benefits
Joining our Buildership means you are contributing to our future as we build the frequency of our services, our educational programming and community events.

Some Small Print
For families having a simcha with us, there is a minimum term of one year as Builders or Pillars. But because a bar or bat mitzvah is the beginning of a lifetime journey, rather than a destination, we'd encourage you to stay a long term part of the community.
Thank You for Building with Us
Your participation in our buildership program is more than just a membership—it's a partnership that will help to create a thriving, dynamic community. Together, we will continue to build a space where everyone can feel welcomed, spiritually enriched, and valued. Join us at Kehillat Nashira, and let’s shape our future together.

FAQ
1. Where are the burial grounds located?
The grounds are in Cheshunt, with the Woodland and Western cemeteries next to one another.
2. What are the costs?
The scheme costs £6 per person per month for members under 50, with a sliding scale of one-off joining fee for those over 50. Rates are reviewed annually.
3. Is this an Orthodox burial?
Yes. All burials are halachically compliant, with Tahara overseen by Spanish & Portuguese Orthodox authorities. Kehillat Nashira will have its own section in the cemetery. Every aspect of burial will be halachically compliant. Western Cemetery Orthodox prayer books are available in the Ohel (prayer room). Many Chabad and other Orthodox rabbis have conducted funerals and stone settings at these grounds in the past.
4. Can I reserve a plot?
In this scheme, plots are not reserved but are allocated in the event of a death. At the point that one of the partners dies, the neighbouring plot can be reserved.
5. Can I choose Woodland burial?
Yes, Woodland burial offers a natural, ecological approach. Woodland burials are designed to be a natural-feeling and ecological burial, with a round prayer hall and the feeling of a flower meadow. For those who wish, the grave can be marked with a small flat gravestone which is intended to sink into the ground over the years. Because each grave takes more space at Woodland, there is an additional charge for those choosing burial here.
6. Is there a joining fee?
No, there is not a joining fee for those under the age of 50. However, there is a sliding scale one-off joining fee for anyone joining the scheme aged 50 or over.
7.Can I join the Chevra Kadisha?
Yes. Members are welcome to participate in this holy work, with training and supervision provided. This takes place locally, in Edgware. Members will be part of a wider pool of people, with the option of volunteering for other communities’ burial preparations, and they would be particularly called on in the event of a Kehillat Nashira death.
7. Who would be able to lead a funeral?
Rabbi Miriam or any Rabbi of your choice can lead a funeral with JJBS.
8. What are the provisions for Cohanim?
There is a Cohen room with live-stream at the Ohel and paths for walking to graves at the cemetery.
9. My partner is not halachically Jewish. Could we be buried together under this scheme?
Yes, this is possible. There are some specific things to consider. For more information, please speak to Rabbi Miriam.
10. Will the cost of the scheme go up?
There is no way of knowing how the burial fees will go up over time. JJBS can increase the fees by £1 per year per person, however in some years the fees stay flat.
11. I am an existing member of a burial scheme, why might I want to consider swapping over?
-
Save money: This scheme is significantly cheaper than others.
