Night 8: Simcha’s Chanukah Reflections from University

Writer: Kehillat NashiraKehillat Nashira

Final night of Chanukah - Part of Kehillat Nashira's 8 nights of Chanukah series for 2024

For the final night of our Chanukah series, we’re thrilled to hear from Simcha, a valued member of Kehillat Nashira, sharing reflections as he finishes his first term at university.

Simcha speaks openly about the challenges of being a Jewish student in a new environment, from feeling like a minority to missing the comforts of home.

He shares moments of connection, like explaining the story of Chanukah to friends and receiving unexpected empathy.

“For me,” he says, “the true miracle of Chanukah is that we’ve made it through to another year... and hope that even if next year is dark, there will still be candlelight to guide us and give us hope.

Simcha’s reflections bring our Chanukah series to a close, celebrating hope, light, and resilience.

But before we wrap up entirely, we have a special treat for you—a little musical fun to cap off the festival! Six13, the Jewish a cappella group, combines the story of Chanukah with the Broadway sensation Wicked in their parody video, "Wicked Chanukah."
